Capital:  Algiers (El Djezaïr)

Currency: Dinar (DZD) = 100 centimes. Notes are in denominations of DZD 2000,1000, 500, 200, 100 and 50. Credit cards are generally only accepted in urban areas.

Time: GMT + 1

Language: The official language is Arabic. Tamazight (Berber) a national language, is also spoken in the northern mountainous regions of “Kabylie” and “Aures” and also in the south of the country. French is still used for most official and business transactions. In general English is spoken only in major business or tourist centres.

Religion: Islam is practiced by the majority of the Algerian people.

Visas: Nationals from the following countries do not require a visa to travel to Algeria: Libya, Malaysia, the Maldives, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Western Sahara, the Seychelles, Syria, Tunisia, Yemen.

Telephone: the International phone code is 213. Telephone network is available all over the country except for some places in the desert.

Mobile Telephone: Roaming agreements exist with the three mobile phone operators: Mobilis, Djezzy and Nedjma. But coverage is mostly limited to the great urban areas.

Internet: There are cybercafés in most of the urban areas, and mobile network is available all over the country.

Algeria, the largest country of the Mediterranean Sea and the second largest country on the African continent, provides a bridge between Africa and Europe.
